Durham Public Schools closed the Shepard Middle School building for two days after four employees tested positive for COVID-19, Durham school officials said.
The building will be closed until August 19 for thorough cleaning per guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The first day of school begins on August 17 for Durham Public Schools students. They will be starting the school year remotely. Teachers who were planning on coming into the building to work can work from home until the building is reopened and cleaned. Employees will also have the choice to work at Hillside High School.
Employees who are coming into work are social distancing, wearing face coverings and washing hands frequently, officials said.
The principal of Shepard Middle School sent a message out to parents notifying them of the coronavirus cases Saturday morning.
